Hello and welcome to Genalynx! Below you will find a bulleted list of what you can expect from enlisting our help in your search:
**Note: all of our Search Angels are independent workers. Though they operate through the Genalynx website, they work for themselves and for the benefit of their clients only. Genalynx does not have employees. Instead, we offer a platform for Search Angels to come together under one “roof” to help clients such as yourself.
- For clients who are:
- searching for someone on one side of your family: You must have your DNA results and a family tree on Ancestry showing as much of both maternal AND paternal sides as you know. Once you have done that, we will continue to build onto that tree as we do our research.
- adoptees or otherwise know nothing about either biological side of their family, you must have your DNA results uploaded to Ancestry. We will build your tree using your DNA results.
- You will NEVER be charged for any of our work but we would appreciate a review left on our site, sharing your story on our website, and/or a shout out on Facebook. We would also appreciate you following our Facebook page. The reasons for this are two-fold: 1) So that you will hopefully share any fundraising posts to garner us more support and, the most important 2) To be easily contacted should one of your long-lost relatives come to us for help with their own search and we find that they connect to you. You could be the one person who understands what they are going through.
- While we can make no guarantees that we will be able to find the answers you seek we can promise to give it our best shot. The results depend on a lot of variables such as how good your DNA matches are, record availability, or how popular DNA testing is in a particular country just to name a few. This is also why we cannot predict how long a search will tak. Though the norm is days to weeks in terms of solving a case, it is not unheard of to have cases that can take months (but this is not common).
- We will make every effort to update you often. This could be every day, every other day, etc. and will depend largely on if we have any new information to share. If, at any time, you want to check in and see how things are going, by all means do so. We totally understand the stress of the suspense of a search.
- Even though our investigation may lead to a specific person as the possible answer to your mystery, that’s all it will be at that time-a possibility. Nothing will be set in stone until that person or one of their descendants take a DNA test to either prove or disprove the theory.
- Please be prepared for anything. Some information that is uncovered may not be pleasant. Sometimes, the person you are seeking doesn’t want to be found and their decision has to be respected.
For your convenience and in the spirit of transparency, please see the steps below that outline our research process
- Client clicks on, fills out, and submits the "Client Contract", "Permission To Use Research", and "Details About Your Search We Should Know" forms
- A member of our research team will contact you through your indicated preferred method (on form) to welcome you, answer any questions you may have, and to give you a general idea of when your search will begin (usually within 24 hours)
- Your search commences with the receipt of the tree (if known) and DNA invites. The researcher will then delve into your DNA matches and begins connecting them to your family tree
- Researcher maps all data and arrives at a hypothesis
- Researcher creates a report and presents findings to client
- Client then must decide what they wish to do with the results. Our researchers cannot and will not make that decision for the client nor will we contact any potential matches on the clients behalf. Once our report is given, our part in your journey is over, although we will always be available to answer questions related to your quest. And, of course, we would love updates, pics, etc!
